AN INVITATION TO CELEBRATE THE LIFE AND WORKS OF ROBERT (RABBIE) BURNS (1759-1796)
Robert Burns was a pioneer of the Romantic Movement, a poet, a lyricist and a social commentator. His poetry was often written in a light Scottish dialect of English and his words, whether his own, or adapted from traditional folk song and verse, are both relevant and revered, well over 200 years after his death.
Burns Night is a fixture of the Scottish calendar and also of our own Gwydyr Mountain Club Calendar. As usual we will be celebrating in something approximating to a “traditional” style….
The Haggis is traditionally the focus of any Burns Night Celebration, and whilst we will be paying homage to the great chieftain o' the puddin'-race, we will also ensure that the meal will consist of other, perhaps more palatable dishes, than over-boiled sheep's innards.
The plan is very similar to the Burns Night we had shortly before lockdowns began...
We can probably only accommodate 25 for dinner using the long tables in the kitchen, and whilst there will be "spare" bunks on Saturday night, the kitchen will be closed from around 1pm on Saturday afternoon.
