The Criggion 3 Peaks
(OK, hills more than peaks)
This walk visits the tops of three adjacent hills, Breidden Hill 366m, Moel y Golfa 403m and Middletown Hill 367m, starting from the car park below Rodney's Pillar at Criggion, just North of Welshpool.
Its not as far away as you think, only about as far as the west side of North Wales.
Roughly 13km, about 4-5 hours. Fairly easy going on forestry trails and paths, with a couple of short sections on quiet roads. Mixture of Forestry, mixed woodland, open fields and grassland. There is one very short, non exposed scramble up a rocky outcrop where you might need to use your hands on the way up Moel y Golfa. Roughly 500 - 600m ascent some of it a tad steep but mostly gently graded. Excellent 360 degree views across the Cheshire plain and into mid and South Wales.
Google maps has the location of the car park as "Admiral Rodney’s Pillar Car Parking" Grid ref SJ 293 149 https://w3w.co/finalists.fronted.crops.
You can't miss Rodney's Pillar on the hill on your left as you drive down the A483. Aim to meet at 10:30 before the car park fills up with dog walkers. Google thinks it takes about 1.5 hours to get there from Birkenhead.
Email me to arrange car sharing if you can't chat amongst yourselves.
