Aran Fawddwy, which is only 9.5 metres (31 ft)[ short of being a member of the Welsh 3000s, is the highest peak in the Aran mountain range and the 16th highest summit in Wales. In fact it is higher than Moel Siabod and Cader Idris.
Starting from Llanuwchllyn, Pont y Pandy carpark,(Free) grid ref SH 879 297 ,(by the bridge) at 0830 following the ridge up and returning via Creiglyn Dyfi and Cwm Llwyd.
Ascent is mostly grassy paths, a bit boggy in places even in dry weather, changing to a steep rocky stuff nearer the top. No exposure and not really a scramble.
Descent is via a beautiful grassy slope to the cwm and Llyn, then farm tracks followed by rough grassy footpaths.
13 miles, 3400ft ascent.
