Please car share if you can as it is a small car park. From the cross roads at Horwich End (just south of Whaley Bridge), take the  Chapel en le Frith road.  Approx 0.5 mile after 40mph speed limit on entering Tunstead Milton take narrow opening lane on right (opposite a Parking Sign).  Car park is a few hundred yards on the right by the dam.  Please don’t rely on the postcode, it’s not accurate enough.

The walk is about 7 miles with a vertical ascent of about 1325 feet.

Starting from the car park we will head up to the top of Eccles Pike and then descend down to the Bugsworth canal basin.  We will follow the canal into Whaley Bridge, have a look at the ongoing repairs to the reservoir dam that threatened the town in August 2019, and then ascend the historic Shallcross incline before returning to the cars.

Please bring stout boots, waterproofs and a packed lunch.
