The Hut

Following the easing of coronavirus restrictions by the Welsh Government, we are now able to open the hut to GMC members, external clubs and BMC members without any restrictions on numbers (other than the normal limit of bunk numbers). However, we still have a legal requirement to take reasonable measures to minimise the risk of exposure to and spread of coronavirus. The club has carried out a coronavirus risk assessment for the use of the hut, details of which are on the website., and the rules for using the hut are set out at the bottom of these notes. Anyone who has recently tested positive or has symptoms of Covid 19 should not enter the hut or alternatively should take a test to prove they are Covid negative.

External clubs and BMC members should contact the Hut Booking Secretary using the enquiry facility on the website or directly on hutbooking@gwydyrmc.org.uk. Clubs should keep records of those attending, again for track and trace purposes if required.

The Cottage is now open for booking. Please liaise with Nicky, our Cottage Secretary on cottagebooking@gwydyrmc.org.uk on booking arrangements, or refunds on cancelled bookings

Weekly Meets in Gallaghers

We are currently operating a revised arrangement for our Tuesday evening club meetings, Each month we will have one official Tuesday meeting at Gallaghers when the chairman (or other committee member) will be present and one Zoom meeting for those who are still cautious of in-person meetings. On other Tuesdays, there will be members meeting up at Gallaghers for a more social meeting.

The meets list on the website initially shows only our "outside" meets, but optionally all types of meetings including Tuesday evening meetings can be shown using the selection drop-down.

We are now running a full meets programme, and details for each meet are shown by clicking on the title of the meet in the meets programme on the main website menu.

The photographs show what we normally do as a club..

Covid 19 Hut Procedures

Gwydyr Mountain Club has carried out a risk assessment for the hut with regard to the risk of Covid 19 transmission within the hut.

Those staying in the hut must accept that there are risks inherent with their stay and no guarantee can be provided that the hut will be a coronavirus-free environment. In addition, the level of risk varies for different individuals depending upon age, health, vaccination status, pre-existing conditions etc. Each user must therefore form his, or her, own view of the risk involved. Requests to stay at the hut are deemed to confirm acceptance of that risk.

All visitors to the hut are required to comply with the following procedures:

  1. Let the Hut Booking Secretary know in advance if you intend to stay at the hut, so that we can coordinate numbers.Check that your contact details on the GMC website are up to date, in case they are needed for track and trace purposes.
  2. Do not use the hut if you have symptoms of Covid 19 or have tested positive for Covid 19 in the 10 days prior to your visit.
  3. Take reasonable steps to minimize the risk of Covid 19 transmission to yourself or others, including maintaining social distancing, hand washing, mask wearing, good hygiene and getting vaccinated where possible.
  4. Follow Welsh Government rules in force at the time of the stay.
  5. Space out in the bunk room as far as possible and maintain good ventilation.
  6. Fill in the diary in the entrance hall upon arrival to record your stay.
  7. Thoroughly clean the hut at the end of your stay, in coordination with others. Wash down with detergent all hard surfaces and floor areas, then spray all surfaces with the disinfectant bleach solution provided. Let the disinfectant stand for a few minutes, then dry with disposable paper towels.
  8. In the event that you develop any of the symptoms or have a confirmed diagnosis of Covid 19 within 14 days of your stay at the hut, this must be reported to the Hut Booking Secretary and the meet organiser immediately

In line with BMC recommendations, the club has appointed a Covid 19 Officer and Glenn Grant has volunteered to fulfill this role.

Members may also use the hut grounds for camping or camper vans, but please coordinate with anyone staying in the hut if you wish to use the toilets, showers or kitchen.

ENJOY YOUR VISIT TO THE HUT AND HELP US TO KEEP IT COVID FREE!
